Full Day 10 hour Associate Wedding Photography - Morden Park House Registry Office
Associate Shooting for the wonderful Pippa Volans Photography
I rambled on in my last blog post about how much I love second shooting.
Well this is a whole other ball park: associate shooting.
Second shooting; being free to capture random parts of a wedding day, getting the additional, further afield images that no one thinks about, shooting outside of the view that people generally see, stress free, and fun! As I said, I love second shooting, and highly recommend having a second shooter for your wedding day. (if you'd like to add on a second shooter your package, please let me know in your contact form here , or shoot me an email!)
Associate shooting on the other hand - whew. This is where a photographer hires an associate shooter to photograph a full wedding day alone on their behalf, (most usually due to an emergency occurring and them not being available to physically shoot the day). Then said associate shooter hands over the SD card with all the images to the main photographer for them to go through, edit the entire gallery in their statement style, and deliver to their client.
Now that, that is very bloody stressful.
However, as you guys already know, I absolutely love shooting weddings, and I'm confident in my work as a wedding photographer. So I put on my big girl pants, dotted the i's and crossed all the t's, and got my equipment ready to associate shoot for the lovely Pippa.
As opposed to shooting my own weddings, where I chat constantly with my couples leading up the special day, aside from reading through their questionnaire, I didn't meet Becca &Dharsh until their actual special day. However, we gelled like good friends immediately, and the day sped by.
This very hot quintessentially British summers day began at Dharsh's Airbnb for me to capture groom prep. I love groom prep; having second shot for a fair few weddings I'm pretty confident in groom prep, and I know what needs to be captured and how to navigate coordinating and directing a room full of guys. I think that groom prep is such an integral part of a wedding day story, and it's so important to have these moments captured too. The laughter between the guys, doing up the wedding suit - these are just as special moments for the grooms as they are for the brides. If you would like groom prep covered in your wedding package with me, then just let me know when you fill in your contact form here - or when we are on our discovery call together (or during emails if you don't want a call; I see you Gen Z's!!)
I then scooted over to Becca & Dharsh's beautiful new home together, where the girls were getting ready. The atmosphere here was just lush! Pastries, berries, music and good vibes - this was a total group of girl's girls, and me also being a total girl's girl I loved every second here!
Once all the girls were dressed in their lovely array of red and pink bridesmaid dresses (I LOVE the modern trend of an assortment of lovely colours for bridesmaids for 2026 weddings!!), and Becca had the sweetest first look moment with her lovely dad, we headed over to the Morden Park Registry Office, where began their beautiful ceremony in the gorgeous Sheridan Room. I adore the colours of this room - muted, warm and timelessly elegant, which complemented B & D's energy perfectly. As a wedding photographer, I can honestly say that this room is perfect, it's so bright and airy and open; I'd easily say that this is hands down my favourite registry office room I've ever shot in!! I'd definitely recommend checking out this registry office if you're looking to get married around Morden, Surrey!!
Once their gorgeous ceremony ended, we had a confetti shower outside with the glorious wisteria (my favourite flower) outside the grand house, and we all then jumped onto the private cream wedding bus to journey into London to The Ivy, at Tower Bridge, for their reception. After an incredibly delicious meal (I had an entire table to myself for my vendor meal, and I must say I cherished every minute of that break and meal!! Delectable🤤) we all headed outside to take some more group shots. Becca & Dharsh had mentioned to me on the bus ride over that they wanted shots in front of London Bridge, so I quickly set up my flash in order to capture them in the shade of the trees, and the Bridge which was in full bright July sunshine. As much as I love natural lighting as a wedding (and family and maternity) photographer, sometimes, a flash is an invaluable tool when capturing certain photographs in certain types of lighting, which is why it is so important that you hire a professional photographer to capture your once in a lifetime wedding day. Without a high powered professional flash, the group shots in front of the bridge would have been unusable: the brightness of the sun would have made the sky too bright and blown out in the photo, meaning the bridge wouldn't have been seen. Or, the picture would have had to be taken so dark to be able to see the bridge, that the girls and grass would have been unrecognisable and just a terrible photo. See below!
After some fun and relaxed portraits for B & D along the strand at London Bridge, we headed back into their reception room at The Ivy, where a total of 50 guests were waiting for the lovely bride and groom to return to mingle, cut their cake and dance the night away.
Thank you so much to the lovely Becca & Dharsh for entrusting me to shoot your wedding day on behalf of Pippa and for allowing me to be by your sides through every moment, and thank you so much to the lovely Pippa for having me associate shoot for you! I abolsutely can't wait to second shoot a wedding day with you this coming August!
Sending love,
Jess🤍

(PS - The night ended with Becca realising that she had left her suitcase back at their house, of which she needed for their honeymoon that they were heading to the next day! So we devised a plan, wherein they entrusted me with their house keys, and once I got back to their house, I popped their suitcase and house keys into the uber that they ordered from back at The Ivy to take it back to them. Teamwork makes the dream work baby! This is exactly the kind of trusting relationships I like to build with people, and I do indeed like to do all I can to help whenever I can🤍)
Prime flash examples here!! Subjects were grouped together under the shade of the trees - however the bridge was in BRIGHT broad daylight. The use of my high powered flash here brightened up my subjects, meaning I was able to expose the image for the brightness of the sunny bridge, getting everything perfectly exposed😊
Scroll down for an image without flash.

See how the bridge is barely visible? Still a cute image, but not as perfectly exposed as those with flash.
